In A State Of Flux
Well. Bloc Party, take a bow. I don’t want this blog to turn into a gig review or anything of that nature but I do feel that it would be foolish not to dish up a bit of chat about the gig I alluded to in my previous post. Because, quite frankly, it was an absolute beast. Due to the massive size and shambolic ticketing/wristband system of the O2 Arena we missed half of The Cribs no doubt life changing set, during which I managed to walk straight into Radio 1 DJ Zane Lowe. I truly am a clown. Bit gutted we only managed to catch the last couple of songs but it did remind me what a fucking good song ‘Be Safe’ is. After a hit and miss set from Klaxons, Bloc Party ambled onto the stage to play a set I thought would largely pass me by. Again, I am a clown. What followed was amongst the finest half hours of live music I have ever witnessed. The highlight for me was unquestionably an unexpected outing for early album track ‘This Modern Love’ but it was a close run thing, with ‘Banquet’ and ‘Flux’ causing truly mental scenes amongst the gathered masses. Plus their laser show was amazing. Kaiser Chiefs came and went without too much of a stir and it was left to the Manics to play out the night to a sadly rapidly emptying arena. Do people not realise just how good they are?! They even made ‘Umbrella’ by Rihanna sound good. Anyway, I haven’t slept in a while so I probably should. Back off to London tomorrow for Barnet v Shrewsbury. I don’t fancy it.
